Tata Co. said Monday its Strategic Electronics Division has been
awarded a contract to improve India's defence airfields' capabilities to
handle modern combat aircraft being inducted by the Indian Air Force.
The order is from India's defence ministry for the so-called program, Modernisation of Airfield Infrastructure - Phase I, Tata Power said.
Tata Power didn't give any other details, including the value of the contract and the number of airfields it will upgrade.
Earlier Monday, the Business Standard newspaper reported that the contract to upgrade 30 air bases is valued at 10.94 billion rupees ($248.6 million). It will be executed over the next 42 months, the report said, without citing any sources.
The modernization project will start with Bathinda airbase in north India's Punjab state and will also include eight airfields along the India-China border, the report added.
