US Prepared To Snatch Pakistan Nukes--NBC News

The Obama administration is escalating its psychological warfare against the Pak military establishment through leaking very sensitive reports to the American and world media. In this regard, the NBC News reported that the US military and intelligence operatives are debating, strategizing, gaming and potentially even conducting crisis on entering Pakistan and seizing the nation’s nuclear weapons during a crisis.

The former White House Deputy Counter-Terrorism Director Roger Cressey confirmed the planning and term the scheme as,” The highest priorities of the US intelligence community and the White House.” He disclosed that the planned operation would be “snatch and grab” the nukes and that US Special Forces would try to dismantle or eliminate them. A US Congressional Research Service report debated the case and justified it, claiming that Pakistan has to be deprived of its 90-110 nuclear arsenals.

Princeton University Pakistan academic Zia Mian disclosed that CIA and Defence Department frequently conducted preparations to snatch the nukes. They’ve exercised attacking Iran; hence Pakistan should be ready for such episode.

In his 2009 book” Defusing Armageddon,” intelligence scholar Jeffery Richelson wrote that the then US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Peter Pace five years ago outlined two kinds of situations:” elimination operations” and “ interdiction operations by the United States to secure Pak nuclear weapons. The operations’ task would be to locate, secure, disable and/or destroy Pak nukes.

Schiebel Camcopter S-100 Operated From Chinese Type 054A Frigate

A Chinese frigtate has been photographed operating a small unmanned helicopter that appears to be the Schiebel Camcopter S-100.

Earlier this week, the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) released images of the unmanned air vehicle (UAV) and a Chinese Type 054A missile frigate taken by a surveillance aircraft.

An industry source familiar with China's UAV sector says it is "common knowledge" in the industry that China obtained 18 of the Austrian-built UAVs two years ago.

"This is just a Schiebel UAV helicopter," he says, referring to the images. "China purchased 18 of these two years ago. It is the only UAV helicopter this size that is capable of taking off and landing aboard a ship."

USAF Using CounterFeit Chinese Electronics Parts

Bootleg electronic components have found their way onto the US Air Force’s aircraft. An investigation by the Congress has exposed counterfeit electronic parts being used by major aircraft corporations Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky.

The two-year probe was conducted by the US Senate Armed Services Committee. Overall, 1,800 cases of counterfeit electronic parts being used have been exposed.

The Committee concluded that a huge number of fake electronic parts being used in the production of military aircraft, night vision devices, radio stations and GPS navigation modules pose a serious threat to national security.

Among others, the use of counterfeit electronic parts has been proven on the Alenia C-27J Spartan medium-sized military transport aircraft, Boeing's P-8A Poseidon long-range surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft, Lockheed Martin’s turboprop military transport aircraft C-130J Super Hercules and Sikorsky’s SH-60B Seahawk helicopter used by the US Navy.

About 70 per cent of the fake electronic microchips were traced as being produced in China; the rest came from Canada and Great Britain.

The investigation revealed a scheme whereby large-scale producers bought counterfeit electronic chips from subcontractors who have established links with pirates.

Electronic counterfeit is a multibillion business in China. This has led to counterfeit electronic parts flooding the market and being traded openly.

Lenovo Emerges As Top PC Seller In India Overtakes Dell & HP

For the first time, Chinese personal computer maker Lenovo has cornered the largest share in the overall Indian PC market, overtaking Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP), according to data from market researcher IDC.

Latest data shows that Lenovo has a market share of 15.8% in the three months to March 31, compared to 10% in the previous period, which had put the Chinese PC-maker at 4th spot then. Dell, which is at number two spot, saw its market share shrink by 2.6 % while HP follows with a market share of 14.9 % in the March quarter.

With the top spot switching among HP, Dell and Lenovo, Indian PC market is witnessing high competition, especially as the PC penetration here is extremely low and hardware makers sense a long-term opportunity.

Lenovo's push to the top was aided by a large order from the Tamil Nadu government to supple free laptops to graduating school children - a promise made during last year's state assembly elections. A few months ago, Tamil Nadu announced procurement of 9 lakh laptops at about 14,000 a piece. Lenovo, along with HCL Infosystems and Acer, had bagged the contract.

Coming out of a slump, the Indian PC market grew 7.7% in the first quarter of the year as a revival in consumer sentiment backed by strong sales in semi-urban areas pushed sales upwards.

Pakistan Air Force To Gain Superiority Over Indian Air Force

The Indian media has expressed shock and dismay over the revelations that the IAF will lose its superiority to the PAF within the next one to two years. The crisis hit Indian Armed Forces, rocked by various scams, corruption allegations and infighting, seems to have overlooked the procurement of much needed fighter aircraft, which is needed to guard its skies. At present, the IAF is operating 34 fighter jet squadrons, as compared to the 26 operated by the PAF. However, the IAF needs to operate 39.5 squadrons to maintain its superiority over the PAF, due to a wide variety of issues like geographical disadvantage. The squadron strength of the IAF will drop to just 31 during the country’s 12th five year plan (2012-2017). The IAF also plans to phase out around 125 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 fighter jets during 2014-2017.

It plans to replace them with the HAL Tejas, whose induction is likely to get delayed. On the other hand, the PAF is moving forward with a number of high profile aircraft deals. Pakistan recently received 14 General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon (Block-52) aircraft from the US. It is likely to acquire 14 more within a short time. PAF is also actively pursuing aircraft dealings with Chinese aerospace companies. It has finalized a deal to purchase 36 Chengdu J-10 multirole fighter aircraft, from the Chinese aircraft manufacturer Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation.

PAF is likely to induct these aircrafts in 2014. Sources within the PAF claim that as many as 150 of these fighter jets will be purchased from China in the long run. Recently India had finalized a defence deal with the French aerospace manufacturer Dassault Aviation for the delivery of 126 Dassault Rafale Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft. But the deal has come under increasing scrutiny after allegations of kickbacks being given to Indian defence officials. Even if the deal goes forward, the delivery of the fighter jet is expected to take a long time. Earlier the Dassault Rafale was rejected by nations such as Singapore, South Korea, Morocco and Switzerland, citing lack of advanced technology and cost.

Update On India’s Kaveri Jet Engine

India has no fixed plans to fully develop the indigenous Kaveri fighter engine for the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) Tejas aircraft.

"The Defence Research Development Organisation [DRDO] has not fixed any timeframe to fully develop the Kaveri Aero Engine for the [Tejas]," says defence minister AK Antony.

The announcement is the closest New Delhi has come to abandoning the long-delayed engine programme, which has suffered from major performance issues and cost overruns.

Antony noted that the Tejas requires an engine capable of producing 90kN (20,200lb) of thrust, but the "Kaveri does not fully meet this requirement."
"Therefore, it has been decided to use variants of Kaveri engine to power unmanned air vehicles and also for marine applications," he says.

He adds, however, that a Kaveri jet engine could be tested aboard a Tejas Mk 1 in another three years. This suggests that major issues still need to be ironed out before the engine is married to a manned fighter.

Antony made the comments in a written reply to a question in parliament.
The Tejas Mk I uses the General Electric F404 power plant, while the planned Tejas Mk II will use the General Electric F414.

India Clears $660 Million Deal For M777 Artillery Guns

The Indian Army got a shot in the arm today with the defence ministry clearing its long-pending $660 million (Rs.3,000 crore) proposal to buy 145 ultra-light howitzer guns to add teeth to its ageing inventory.

This is the first time the army is buying artillery guns in 27 years, since the Bofors guns payoff scandal broke out in the late 1980s.

Saudi Arabia Is The Last Hope and Defense Line For Israel---Report

A recent report by Tel Aviv University says Saudi Arabia is the last hope and defense line for Israel and describes the Saudis as Tel Aviv’s last chance to protect its political interests in the Arab world.

The report said most of Israel’s allies in the region have collapsed and cannot play a significant role in the Arab world.

It added that Saudi Arabia is the only country that stands against the Islamic Republic of Iran and thus it is Tel Aviv’s last line of defense against Tehran.

The report noted that the Al Saud family is very important to Israel because Saudi Arabia is very actively working in countries such as Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, and Lebanon to reduce Iran's influence in those countries.

Last March, a senior Egyptian cleric accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of meddling in the internal affairs of other Muslim nations, calling the two states “Israel’s servants.”

Sheikh Mohammad Alaedin Madhi said the two countries were implementing an Israeli-US plan in Syria.

He also criticized the Saudi-owned television network Al-Arabiya and the Qatar-owned broadcaster Al-Jazeera for "serving Israeli interests."

China To Build 21st-century Titanic II

Australian billionaire Clive Palmer plans to build a 21st-century replica of the Titanic and sail it from England to New York accompanied by the Chinese navy by the end of 2016.

Palmer has signed a first-stage agreement with Nanjing- based CSC Jinling Shipyard to build the ship as part of a planned fleet of luxury liners, the Gold Coast, Queensland-based businessman said in an statement today. Palmer’s investments include property developments, coal and iron-ore mining projects, a nickel smelter, a soccer team and a horse stud.

“It will be every bit as luxurious as the original Titanic, but of course it will have state-of-the-art 21st century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems,” said Palmer, 58. “We have invited the Chinese navy to escort Titanic II on its maiden voyage to New York.”

Palmer’s ship will have the same dimensions as the original Titanic, with 840 rooms on nine decks as well as gymnasiums, swimming pools, libraries and restaurants, he said.

BlackBerry finally launches App World in Pakistan

After a three-year wait, Research in Motion has finally launched the highly-anticipated App World – the official store for applications – for BlackBerry-toting customers in Pakistan, according to its local partner Emitac Mobile Solutions (EMS).

The Canada based manufacturer of Blackberry smart phones had earlier enabled the App World on a test-basis in February for a day in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Blackberry users are now able to access the application, according to details posted on its website on Monday and later confirmed by EMS – the manufacturer’s support partner – in a statement on Tuesday.

More than six million apps are downloaded daily across the globe from BlackBerry’s App World.

“It was bound to happen,” said a telecom source who requested anonymity. While commenting on the development, he said RIM’s intentions were clear from the test launch in February. The rising popularity of Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android-powered phones, the source said, may have forced this development.

Smartphones are more about applications, according to experts. RIM was slow to open its doors as iPhone and Android-powered phones gave its Pakistani users unlimited access to their application stores – Apple’s App Store and Android Marketplace, respectively.
